They know each other better than anyone. But after knowing someone for so long, can love still make your heart race the way it once did?
KBS romance drama No Other Choice but Love brings Seo Kang-joon and Ahn Eun-jin together as a couple facing that very question after 10 years together. Seo stars as Namgoong Ho, while Ahn plays Lee Mi-do. The two first met when they were young, began dating at 26, and have now spent a decade by each other’s side.
But a long relationship does not necessarily lead to marriage. For Namgoong Ho and Mi-do, the familiarity built over the years is both comforting and unsettling. The excitement they once felt simply by seeing each other has faded into everyday routine, leaving them unsure whether their love has truly changed or whether they have simply grown too accustomed to being together.
Their relationship becomes even more complicated with the arrival of new characters played by Lee Joo-an and Cho A-ram. Caught between the comfort of a familiar relationship and unexpected new emotions, Ho and Mi-do are forced to reconsider what they truly want — from love, from each other and from their own lives.
What makes No Other Choice but Love intriguing is that its story goes beyond a conventional love triangle. The drama asks why two people who have loved each other for years can gradually drift apart, and whether the excitement sparked by someone new is really the beginning of another love — or simply a longing for feelings that have disappeared from an old one.
The pairing of Seo Kang-joon and Ahn Eun-jin brings particular weight to that idea. Rather than focusing on an idealized romance, their characters capture the comfort, disappointment and lingering attachment that can exist simultaneously between two people who have shared a significant part of their lives.
That leaves the drama with a question more compelling than simply who ends up with whom:
Can a love that has lasted 10 years make your heart race again?
No Other Choice but Love airs on KBS 2TV in South Korea and is available internationally through Prime Video.
